Cajun Trinity Cheese Straws

Don’t taste these! If you do they’ll be gone before your guests arrive. Brimming with the Cajun Trinity – onion, red bell pepper and celery – and Cajun spices, all from our Taste the Seasons Cajun Trinity mix, these cheese straws are spicy, cheesy and most of all – tempting.

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 package Taste the Seasons Cajun Trinity mix

1 teaspoon baking powder

12 ounces sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded, room temperature

3/4 cup butter, room temperature

1 tablespoon milk

In a medium bowl, mix together flour, Cajun Trinity mix and baking powder; set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, blend together the butter and cheddar cheese. Stir in the flour mixture; add milk. Use hands to bring dough together.

On a large flour-dusted surface, roll out dough to 1/8-1/4 inch thick, forming a rectangle 12 inches wide. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut into narrow strips about 1/2-inch wide. Make a long length-wise cut to form 6-inch long strips. Arrange onto parchment paper-lined baking sheets. Bake in preheated 375°F oven for 12 to 15 minutes, until lightly browned. Immediately remove to cooling rack.

Notes: For best results, shred a block of cheddar cheese rather than use pre-shredded bagged cheese. Allow the cheese and butter to come to room temperature. Do not over bake. The flavors improve overnight. Keep in airtight container.
